We might be a little biassed, but we think that Westdown Farm has one of the best locations for families of explorers in the whole of the Southwest.
We’re 20 minutes from the North Coast, and less than 10 minutes from the Dartmoor National Park, whether you’re looking for a theme park, a beach, a wild and windy tor to climb, or a horse to jump on the back of – you’ll find it all within easy reach of our idyllic slice of Devon.

MELDON RESERVOIR
Arguably one of Dartmoor’s best kept secrets, Meldon Reservoir is nestled on the Northern edge of the National Park and is approximately 10 minutes from Westdown Farm by car. With miles of public footpaths and bridleways, you can lose hours of your day exploring and taking in breathtaking scenery. If you fancy a spot of wild swimming, a dip in the nearby river pools offer a refreshing way to cool down after a long day of exploring!GRANITE WAY CYCLE TRACK
Spanning from Okehampton, all the way to Lydford and passing Meldon Viaduct, the Granite Way enables you to explore Dartmoor by bike (cycle hire shop located en route).
WAR HORSE VALLEY COUNTRY FARM PARK
Discover the story behind War Horse the best selling novel from Michael Morpurgo. Visit the museum, spend time with the animals and enjoy a delicious Devonshire cream tea.
CHOLWELL FARM RIDING STABLES
Explore Dartmoor by Horseback! Donna and her team at Cholwell Farm offer horseback treks on Dartmoor come rain or shine. With over 35 horses and ponies to choose from, Cholwell have a steed for everyone. The farm yard is located right on the edge of Dartmoor National itself so you’ll have no need to worry about cars!
BUDE SEA POOL
Bude Sea Pool is a man made lido which is fed by the ocean! Swim in fresh sea water without the worry of tides and open waters. Bude Sea Pool has a large viewing deck and a shallow end, making it a great spot for a family day out. Better still, it’s free to use – making this destination both family and budget friendly.
WIDEMOUTH BAY
If you’re coming to the Westcountry for the surf, then look no further, Widemouth has miles of sandy beach to enjoy as well as some of the best surf that North Cornwall has to offer.
CREALY GREAT ADVENTURE PARK
Roller coasters, log flumes, soft play and a whole farm yard of animals to look at – what’s not to love for the little ones? Crealy is within easy reach of Westdown farm and can be found around 40 minutes away by car.
